Bunny Engine & Art

We created Dust Bunnies: Secret Agents because we love stories, and we think that new technologies are creating interesting new ways of telling them.  A lot of effort went into creating the art and technology for Dust Bunnies: Secret Agents, and in the spirit of sharing and encouraging new stories to be told, we’re releasing the source code to Dust Bunnies: Secret Agents, as well as Creative Commons licensing the artwork.

iOS Source Code

We’ve packaged up the Dust Bunnies source code, removed any Dust Bunnies trademarks or copyrighted content, and uploaded the whole thing to github:

Bunny Engine on Github

The application was built using Appcelerator’s Titanium development environment, which allows you to write JavaScript code which is then translated into an iOS native application.   Theoretically it should be easy to port Bunny Engine to Android for use on the Kindle Fire, Nook HD, or other Android devices, but we haven’t made any attempts ourselves.  For a demo of how Bunny Engine works and what you can expect to see when you get it all installed, check out this demo: Bunny Engine Demo (MP4)  The sepia toned graphics are there to encourage you to replace them with something of your own. 🙂

We’re licensing the Bunny Engine code under the Apache 2.0 license.

Bunny Art

A bulk of Dust Bunnies budget went into creating the art.  We’ve decided to license the art under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License.  That means you can remix it into your own stories or use the images for your own use, as long as you give us credit, you don’t sell it, and don’t distribute your work under a non-CC license.  If you’d like to use the art in another way that this license restricts, let us know and we can talk.

We have layered PSDs as well as the original FLA files, from which you can pull vector-based characters (the backgrounds aren’t vector).

We’re also releasing the 3d models we had created of the Bunny Agents characters, in case you have a 3D printer sitting in your garage and want some mini-figs.

While we are releasing these images and models, we aren’t releasing the Dust Bunnies characters, name, character design or story. Those are still copyright 2011 Polycot Labs, LLC, All Rights Reserved. Please don’t just repackage these with a knock-off of Dust Bunnies: Secret Agents, use them to create something new.

If you’d like to see the graphics included in the Bunny Agents Art PSDs, here are the thumbnails.  If you click through you can see the filename at the top of the page.
